Circular Saxony
Climate protection requires not only an energy transition but also a raw materials transition. This is why the European Commission has defined the decoupling of economic growth from raw material consumption as a goal in its Green Deal. In order to establish a circular economy in Saxony, the two associations Energy Saxony e.V. and Circular MTC e.V. have initiated the Circular Saxony innovation cluster, which is funded by the Free State of Saxony.
The aim is to design sustainable production and recycling cycles in order to tackle the resource problem and reduce transformation costs towards climate neutrality. Together with stakeholders from industry, science and politics, the circular economy is to be transferred from rhetoric to practice within the framework of topic-specific working groups.

Circular Saxony working groups
The working groups on the circular economy aim to achieve the best possible utilization of by-products, residual materials and waste. The focus is on exchange, networking and cooperation between the players. Intelligent and value-adding processes and services are to be developed and implemented. Participants gain partners and skills and familiarize themselves with a wide range of best practice examples. The working groups are supervised by experts from Energy Saxony e. V. and Circular MTC.
Organized by Energy Saxony:
- Biomass: for a circular bioeconomy
- Water: Sustainable circular use of municipal and industrial wastewater
- Circular construction: Circular economy in the construction sector
- Raw materials for the energy transition: Recycling equipment from the energy industry
Organized by Circular MTC:
- Reuse and remanufacturing of vehicle, aviation and wind energy components
- Sorting and recycling of plastic components
- Repair and recycling technologies for fiber-reinforced plastic composite structures
- Textile cycle
- Battery reuse, repair and recycling
- Cycle of smart structures
- Business models for circular economy
- Sustainable medical technology: Circular economy in hospitals and medical practices
