Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems and Device Technology IISB

FRAUNHOFER IISB

The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems and Device Technology IISB is one of the leading European research institutes for wide-bandgap semiconductors and power electronic systems. It serves the entire power electronics value chain. The spectrum ranges from basic materials, semiconductor components and process technologies, power electronic modules and components to complete electronic and energy systems.

Key areas of application are electromobility, aerospace and sustainable energy supply. With its solutions, the institute repeatedly sets benchmarks in energy efficiency and performance, even for extreme operating conditions. The integration of intelligent data-based functionalities continuously opens up new application scenarios.

The IISB supports customers and partners worldwide in transferring current research results into competitive products. The Institute organizes its activities in two business areas: Semiconductor Technology and Power Electronic Systems. A total of around 300 employees work at the headquarters in Erlangen and at the Fraunhofer Technology Center for High Performance Materials THM in Freiberg.

FRAUNHOFER THM

The Fraunhofer Technology Center for High Performance Materials THM is a research and transfer platform of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems and Device Technology IISB and the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS. As part of industrial contracts and publicly funded projects, semiconductor and energy materials are jointly transferred into new applications, with a particular focus on future material recycling. One focus of the work at Fraunhofer THM is the analysis and development of sustainable battery systems with improved eco-balance and raw material availability compared to established battery technologies.
