STS Textiles GmbH & Co KG – The solution finders
Textiles are not just a way to dress up or beautify your home. Technical textiles are increasingly combining design with functionality. For STS, there is nothing that cannot be done. If a customer has a problem, the textile experts will find a solution. They are correspondingly successful with their innovations. There are only a handful of companies in the whole of Europe that have equipment for manufacturing technical textiles comparable to that of STS. The medium-sized company from Saxony is the market leader in some areas. Markus Tutsch, Managing Director, has been in the industry for over 20 years and has built up a large network over the years, from which new things are constantly emerging. The company was nominated for the GreenTec Award in the Energy category in 2014 and was recognized as a Top Innovator and a Landmark in the Land of Ideas 2014.
The company
STS Textiles GmbH & Co. KG develops and produces textiles for the home textiles and technical textiles sectors using state-of-the-art technology. Knitted fabrics can be produced in widths of up to 270 cm. The product range extends from upholstery fabrics and clothing to protective textiles and capillary tube mats.
One particular highlight is the textile heat exchanger, which was developed in cooperation with the Institute of Air Handling and Refrigeration in Dresden.
Customer-specific requirements are realized by a development team in terms of design and technology. An internal quality management system and the commitment to resource and environmentally friendly production, which is enshrined in the company policy, form the basis of the company philosophy, which is geared towards sustainability and long-term partnership.
Innovation – miracle material made of wax – textile latent heat storage
One challenge in efforts to improve energy efficiency in many applications is the storage and provision of thermal energy – heat.
While there are already a wide range of high-performance storage options for electrical energy in the form of the familiar rechargeable battery, the technology for storing heat has largely remained with classic water storage systems.
This problem is solved by the textile storage system developed and patented by STS. By integrating latent heat accumulators into the textile, it is possible to store heat in a specific temperature range with a high energy density and make it available to the environment again at a later time. The material can be used to make decorative storage units for walls and ceilings or even heat and cold protection vests without having to use special tools. Depending on the respective ambient conditions, energy savings of up to 30 % can be achieved in air-conditioned rooms, while the savings potential for apartments and detached houses is up to 10 %. This makes the textile material developed by STS, for example, the only wall element whose use can be economically evaluated with an amortization calculation.
Innovation – miracle material made of stone – basalt knitwear
Basalt knitwear is made from fibers of molten basalt stone. Special technology is required during processing so that the brittle fibers can be knitted into a textile surface. They are used in the high-temperature range, e.g. in fire protection or to improve room acoustics.
