PHASE CHANGE MATERIAL (PCM)

PCM Energy GmbH develops, produces and sells thermal storage units as latent heat storage systems. In technological terms, these are PCM (phase change material) heat accumulators. With the production and distribution of the product group
PCM latent heat storage
in the areas of
- Stationary storage
- Mobile storage
standard solutions are available for on-site latent storage tanks, but also for transportation in the temperature ranges 44°C, 58°C and 70°C.
TECHNOLOGY:
- Latent heat storage systems use the phase change, e.g. from solid to liquid, of a phase change material (PCM phase change material – salt hydrate) and therefore store heat at a constant melting temperature – this is referred to as “hidden” (latent) heat.
- PCMs currently available and used on the market with melting temperatures of up to 70°C are divided into organic PCMs (kerosenes, fatty acids, esters) and inorganic PCMs (salt hydrates).
- Latent heat storage in the temperature range < 80°C combines the advantage of water liquid as a sensitive storage medium with the dominant advantages of latent storage media in specially shaped macro-encapsulations.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF PCM ENERGY GMBH INCLUDES:
- Market availability of stationary PCM hybrid storage systems up to the temperature range of 70°C
- Market availability of mobile PCM hybrid storage units up to the temperature range of 58°C
- Lightweight construction concepts to increase heat storage capacity
BENEFITS:
- Significantly smaller sizes due to very high volume-related storage densities.
- Withdrawal temperatures at the level of the melting temperature (latent heat).
- Temperature stratification could be realized by combining sensible water storage with additional latent storage elements of different melting temperatures.
- Optimum decoupling possibilities of the diurnal and production-related heat demand from the heat supply from waste heat through very high storage capacities with small storage volumes.
- Elimination of costly corrosion protection measures through the use of special PP plastics to encapsulate the PCM.
APPLICATIONS:
- Storage of industrial waste heat and from CHPs or biogas plants
- Storage tanks in solar thermal systems
- Storage tank for domestic heating
- Mobile latent heat storage unit for transporting industrial waste heat up to 80°C
- Large-scale stationary storage systems in the megawatt range possible
