UNDERGROUND STORAGE ENGINEERING

ESK’s services cover the entire chain of planning and construction phases for storage facility construction. We organize and support all phases of construction, from design planning and the implementation of official approval procedures to the procurement of equipment. We also offer our customers the option of taking over the entire project management. We regularly carry out comprehensive storage monitoring to ensure the controlled and stable performance of porous and cavern storage facilities.

From the search for a storage location and site selection to the evaluation and suitability assessment of your storage facilities – we provide you with comprehensive advice on all aspects of underground storage. We also have the technical know-how and many years of experience to take on the responsible task of building owner’s engineer. Would you like to have your staff trained? SOFTWARE PRODUCTS

A close link between engineering planning and technical operations management forms the basis for the development of special data processing and computer systems for storage technology and for the extraction of oil and gas deposits. We develop specialist software that is constantly updated and adapted to customer requirements. The individual user support provided by a qualified development and training team enables these software products to be used without any problems in the customer’s respective system environment.

MARKET AREA CONVERSION FROM L-GAS TO H-GAS

In addition to the relevant components of survey and adaptation as well as quality management, which we cover with an experienced team from Gatter 3 Technik GmbH, ESK focuses on the holistic view of the value chain. Today, we have pooled our experience, such as our in-depth knowledge of gas application technology and project management expertise, in technical project management.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

ESK GmbH is strongly committed to the further development of underground storage technologies. We are a member of HYPOS e.V. and are involved in research into sector coupling and long-term storage of renewable energies using green hydrogen.

• For several years, ESK has been active in the Hydrogen storage in the geological underground and has carried out feasibility studies (e.g. for the CO2RRECT project, in-house studies for RWE and innogy) as well as conducting and coordinating basic research (e.g. SMRI project “Renewable energy storage in salt caverns – a comparison of thermodynamics and permeability between natural gas, air and hydrogen”).
• For the efficient short-term storage of energy (with storage periods of several hours to several days), we are developing underground compressed air storage as part of the ADELE project. Other areas in which ESK is active include the development of energy-optimized storage methods or systems for recovering compression energy as well as the design of underground storage facilities for alternative gases (nitrogen, helium, coke oven gas).
• In the course of current market developments, the focus is also shifting to the development of technology to ensure well integrity and the conversion of existing gas storage caverns for other types of use.
