Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce

The Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) is a public corporation. It works on the basis of the IHK law and is the largest representative of the regional economy in the Dresden administrative district with around 96,000 member companies from the industry, trade, services, transport, construction, hotel and catering sectors. With an annual economic output of more than 20 billion euros, IHK companies are responsible for around 350,000 jobs and over 12,000 apprenticeships.

In addition to the head office in Dresden, the IHK is also represented in Bautzen, Kamenz, Görlitz, Zittau and Riesa. Since 1991, it has been a member of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) in Berlin alongside 79 other IHKs throughout Germany. The IHK Dresden employs around 160 full-time staff. They are supported by 300 entrepreneurs who volunteer their time on the Executive Committee, the General Assembly and in specialist committees. Around 3,200 volunteer examiners also work in the examination boards to ensure the quality of vocational education and training. The close connection between the voluntary and full-time employees ensures that the IHK works in an extremely business-oriented and practical manner.

What does the IHK Dresden do?

On the basis of the social market economy, the sustainable promotion of the regional economy is the most important goal of the IHK’s work. The spectrum of activities is broad and ranges from advising public administration and legislative bodies to expert opinions for courts, from responsibility for commercial and industrial vocational training and further education to individual company support.

As a self-governing body of the economy, the IHK provides its members with a comprehensive range of services. The expert knowledge of the full-time employees and the experience of the volunteer business practitioners are equally available to all IHK members.

The Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce is the representative of interests and opinion leader in all economic and economic policy issues in the Dresden administrative district and, in coordination with the Chambers of Industry and Commerce in Chemnitz and Leipzig as the state working group of the Saxon Chambers of Industry and Commerce, also in the Free State of Saxony. At federal level, it works together with the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), on whose committees it represents the interests of the regional economy at federal level. Internationally, the IHK can draw on the worldwide network of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad and foreign chambers.
