ESF Elbe-Stahlwerke Feralpi GmbH

For more than twenty years, Feralpi has been producing steel from scrap at its Riesa site as an elementary part of the Europe-wide Feralpi Group, making it an important part of the recycling cycle. A lot has changed in the 170-year history of steel cooking and processing. Today, FERALPI STAHL is one of the most modern steelworks in Europe with a strong environmental focus.

Numerous everyday buildings throughout Germany and large parts of Europe are supported by steel from Riesa, making it indispensable. FERALPI STAHL has a wealth of expertise in reinforcement products for the construction industry. In addition, the steel manufacturer also produces reinforcement elements specially tailored to the customer’s requirements.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

Feralpi is aware of its regional responsibility for environmental protection and has implemented numerous measures to increase environmental performance and energy efficiency at the Riesa site. Since 2015, for example, waste heat from steel production has been continuously recovered with the help of the new steam and energy generation plant and CO2 emissions have been reduced. Feralpi steel also consists of 93.4% recycled material. The majority of waste and production residues are recycled and/or classified as by-products, meaning that only a small proportion is sent to landfill.

PARTICIPATION IN THE “WASSERSTOFFLAND SACHSEN” INNOVATION CLUSTER

By using green hydrogen, Stahlwerk Riesa aims to contribute to the transformation of the Riesa/Meißen economic region into a decarbonized production site. Since May 2022, the company has been actively shaping hydrogen issues in the “Industriebogen Meißen” region as a member of the “Wasserstoffland Sachsen” innovation cluster.
